- The Bridge to Nowhere hike is an 11 mile hike in the San Gabriel Mountains. It was about 34 degrees when we started out in the morning.
- Cindy, Sharon, Nancy and Kyle are happy to be spending a Sunday morning out hiking.
- The trail criss-crosses the East Fork of the San Gabriel River many times.
- We crossed the river approximately 26 times!
- The trail roughly follows the route of a road that attempted to provide a shortcut to Wrightwood. A flood in 1938 wiped out most of the portions of the road. The “Bridge to Nowhere” remains.
- We stopped to have lunch and watched people bungee jump off the bridge. Even Nancy’s dog, Apollo thought, “CRAZY HUMANS!!”
- Kathleen and Ed found a nice spot to eat and enjoy the sunshine.
- A bungee jumper dangling off the bridge.
- FRONT: Sharon, Su, Apollo, Julie, Monica M. MIDDLE: Lindsey, Kathleen, Cindy BACK: Ed, Kyle, Nancy
- Ed and Sharon relaxing before making the trek back.
- We had to traverse this precarious portion of the trail getting to and from our lunch spot.
- The trail ended for several feet and we had to climb over the rocky incline to the other side.
- Lindsey and Kyle making their way across.
- This kind marine appeared out of nowhere to help Nancy as she was slipping on the rocky incline.
- This hike has an elevation gain of a little over 2,000 feet.
- Monica watching as Cindy creates a hoodoo rock sculpture.
- Kathleen at work.
- We were lucky enough to spot 4 Big Horn Sheep on our way back from the bridge. This portion of the trail is called Sheep Mountain Wilderness.
- Heading back…
- It was a beautiful day for a hike!
- Apollo, the alpha dog with his pack
- THANK YOU for planning this hike for us, ED!! It was a beautiful hike, which included a number of new experiences for many of us, such as water crossings and getting to watch bungee jumping.
