Thursday Run (Dec. 31)

We’ll meet near the Snail’s Pace store at 6:00 p.m. We gather in front of the In Flower floral shop (1050 E. Imperial Hwy in Brea), which is located between Snail’s Pace and Tempo Urban Grill.  Unless you get horribly lost…you will make it home in plenty of time to ring in the new year.

Saturday Run (Dec. 26)

We’ll meet at Tri-City Park at 7:00 a.m.  We park in the east parking lot near the intersection of Kraemer and Golden Ave. in Placentia.

If you run to the YL Community Center and back…it’s a little over 6 miles. If you run to the Nixon Library and back…it’s about 8 miles. If you run past the Equestrian center to the end of the Grandview cul-de-sac and back…that’s about 11 miles.

Tuesday Run (Dec. 22)

We’ll meet in the Alicia’s Cookery parking lot (590 Central Ave. in Brea) at 6:00 p.m.  We thought that it would be best to run from a location far from the mall since there will be a lot of traffic in that area.

Article from RICK:  Rick saw this article after his morning run and wanted to share it with us.  He said that Number 7 came in to play when he had 2 or 3 cars pass him in the rain and 25+ mile winds!  He has had several runs in the mid to high 20’s already with many more to follow.  In fact, he just ordered running traction cleats for when the ice and snow arrives.  https://www.yaktrax.com/product/run  They are expecting snow on Christmas morning, which should make for a great Christmas run!

10 Tips to Shut Up and Run in the Cold

As we creep into winter, here are some tips to keep motivated despite the plunging temperatures:

1. Be grateful: Stop your whining and remember that you can run. You get to run. There are many people too sick, disabled or injured to do what you are complaining about. Some people would kill to go just one mile in your frozen shoes. So, adjust your attitude fool!

2. Know that cold is easier than hot: Running in the cold can actually be less taxing on your body than running in the heat. Your body doesn’t have to work as hard to cool down and this can increase performance and energy.

3. Sleep in your clothes: If you are really desperate, sleep in your running tights and base layer. That way you don’t have to go through the extra step of getting undressed and dressed in the morning. You might get up easier, but I’m not promising this will do wonders for your sex life.

4. Get the right gear: Not only should you make sure you’ve got the correct cold weather gear for your climate, but treat yourself to a new, fun, sassy running item (thongs might be inadvisable). Maybe this will make getting dressed and hitting the road a bit easier.

5. Have someone waiting on you: I’ve said it before, but there is almost no better motivation than to know someone or a group is waiting for you to show up for a run. Do you really want to be the pussy of the group?

6. Have a warm reward: Know that after your cold run, you will treat yourself to something toasty and warm like a latte, a hot bath or a cup of tea by the fire.

7. Remember the bad-ass effect: Not everyone runs when it’s cold outside. It takes stamina, balls and determination. Tell yourself that every car that passes you is impressed by your fortitude. You may be lying to yourself, but at least it can provide temporary motivation.

8. Know you’ll be less SAD: Research has shown that running in the cold can actually reduce symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Running can release feel good hormones that stave off depression, decrease anxiety and promote a general feeling of contentment.

9. Let your goal stare you in the face: If you are training for something, want to lose weight, or are simply just trying to stay in shape, write your goal down on a sticky note and put it on your alarm clock or bathroom mirror. Sometimes these little powers of suggestion can be the extra push you need.

10. Sign up: There are all kinds of short races throughout the winter time – Peppermint Schnapps 10Ks and Freeze Your Ass Off 5 Milers. Sign up for one just to keep your head in the game.

Saturday Run (Dec. 19)

We’ll meet on the Shopping Center side of the Villa Park High School wall, which is near the Villa Park Animal Clinic at 7:00 a.m. The address of the animal clinic is 17859 Santiago Blvd. Villa Park, 92861.  We will be running along the Santiago Creek Trail, which is an out-and-back run.  You can run up to 10 miles or turn around at any point to shorten your run.

Directions to our meeting location:  From the intersection of the 55 FWY.  and Katella Ave.  Head east on Katella Ave. (which turns into Villa Park Road).  You go only about half a mile east and you get to Wanda Road.  You go north on Wanda Road (make a left turn).  You go on Wanda Road for half a mile and you get to Santiago Blvd.  At the intersection of Wanda Road and Santiago Blvd, you make a right turn (and are heading east).  You drive 0.1 miles.  You will see the Ralph’s shopping center on your left (north side of the street).  Then you will see a Bank of America.  Turn left (north) and go between the Bank of America and the wall (the Villa Park High School wall).  You drive half way into the shopping center.

Tuesday – We’ll meet at Starbucks located on the NE corner of Yorba Linda Blvd. and Village Center Dr. (20355 Yorba Linda Blvd.) at 6:15 p.m.  We will be running around East lake in Yorba Linda to see the Christmas lights.  If you haven’t seen these Christmas lights…you’ll definitely have to come out and run with us!  The lights on the homes and boats are amazing!

Saturday Run (Dec. 12)

We’ll meet at the Fullerton Courthouse at 7:00 a.m. (near the intersection of Brea Blvd. & Harbor Blvd….behind the Ralph’s) 1275 N. Berkeley Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832. We park in the lower parking lot. We have 4 mileage options…5 miles, 6 miles, 7 miles and 10.5 miles.

Thank you SANDI and JUAN!!!  They brought some oranges to share with everybody after the Thursday evening run.  We appreciate your thoughtfulness!

We’ll meet in the parking lot of the Brea Sports Park at 6:00 p.m.  It is located at 3333 E. Birch St. on the NW corner of Birch and Valencia.   (Note:  If parking is not available at the Sports Park…park in the elementary school parking lot located just west of the Sports Park.)  We’ll be in the Eagle Hills neighborhood of Brea for our 2nd holiday run of the season!

The directions for this run appear very long, but that is partly because there are a number of cul-de-sacs that we will run to the end of and then turn around.  When this is the case…you will see “180°” in the directions.  Please don’t let the long directions scare you from showing up!  It should be a nice run with lots of pretty lights!!!

Yosemite Half Marathon (October 8, 2016):  Rick just resgistered for next year’s race.  He said that if anyone is interested in running this, they have plenty of room for those that need a place to stay – 1 double bed, 2 twin beds, 1 couch, 1 futon and plenty of room for sleeping bags.  They made a change to the 2016 race.  The 1st 5 miles will be on a trail with the remaining 8 on a 2 lane road.   This year’s race had all 13 on the 2 lane road.  Looks to be a great change!  Rick registered as a club member – Brea Runners  If at least 5 people register as Brea Runner club members…they will get a discount.

Rick wishes everybody a ‘Merry Christmas’ and he hopes to make it down south next year.

Tuesday Run (Dec. 8)

We’ll meet at the Fullerton Courthouse at 6:00 p.m.  Here is the address: Fullerton Courthouse (near the intersection of Brea Blvd & Harbor Blvd….behind the Ralph’s) 1275 N. Berkeley Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832  It would be best to park in the parking lot close to Berkeley Ave.  It’s our 1st Christmas Lights run of the holiday season.  We are going to see the Christmas Sparkle Balls!

Congrats DONNA!!!  Donna ran the Plymouth Rock ‘n’ Run 10K on Thanksgiving morning.  She placed 1st for her age division with a  time of 1:04:56.

Bruxie Run:  This past Saturday, we met in Downtown Brea to do the Bruxie Run.  Since the Christmas tree and decorations were up in the downtown area…Cindy 50 suggested we take a group photo in front of the tree.  Here are some pics from the morning:


Meet HAZEL!!!  This is Christina’s Boxer named Hazel, which she has had since Hazel was a puppy.  Hazel had a birthday last month and is now 7 years old.  Christina says she is very protective, a good watch dog and she appears to be a UCLA fan just like Christina and her family.  Go Bruins!!

We are going to meet near the NW corner of Brea Blvd. and Birch St at 7:00 a.m. You can park in the parking structure located on Brea Blvd. behind the movie theaters.  The route can very easily be modified to any distance.

8 Mile Run – Run to the corner of Golden Ave. and McCormack Lane and return

10 Mile Run – Run a little past Rose Ave and return
