We have a couple of run options on this very hot Saturday. Su planned a 6.5 mile run/hike at Peter’s Canyon in Orange. She thought that this would be a good place to practice hiking some of the steeper hills to prepare for the Sierra Club hike that she will be leading next Saturday (see info below). There is also a nice flatter trail that people can run out-and-back on to avoid the hills. The other option is to run at the Greenway Trail in Whittier with John and some others. This is a very nice flat asphalt trail lined with CA native plants. It is an out-and-back run…so mileage can be easily adjusted.
Where ever you decide to run…don’t forget to HYDRATE!!!
Option 1 – Peter’s Canyon Trail Run in Orange: We will meet at 6:30 a.m. near the Taco Bell located on the corner of Chapman Ave. and Jamboree. The address is: 8548 E. Chapman Ave. Orange. The Taco Bell is located near a Tuesday Morning store and a Well’s Fargo in an Albertson’s shopping center…on the east side of the parking lot near Jamboree. We will run to Peter’s Canyon and back making this about a 6.5 mile run.
Option 2 – Greenway Trail Run in Whittier: We will meet at Palm Park at 6:30 a.m. The park is located on El Rancho Dr. between Rose Dr. and Floral Dr. (You can use this address of a house across the street from the park to enter into your GPS: 5753 El Rancho Dr. Whittier) Here is a map:
Welcome LONNISSA!!! Lonnissa ran with us on Thursday. She works in Claremont and lives in Irvine…so she stopped off in Brea for a run before heading home. She wanted a pic of her new running friends to show her husband.
Su’s Sierra Club Hike: Here’s a message from Su….
I’m leading a hike for the Sierra Club on Saturday August 22nd to Ice House Saddle and want to see if some Brea Runners want to do this. This hike is easier than Baldy which usually takes me about 7-8 hours with breaks because that is a fairly difficult hike at altitude. It is excellent training for Baldy if people want to do that later. It is still at altitude but lower. I expect this hike to be about 6 hours total and plan on going at a “leisurely” pace which is hard for me to define. I find that altitude and the length of these hikes actually helps my running. This hike is much more scenic than Baldy and is also fine if the weather is hot down here because it’s colder up at altitude plus this route tends to have a lot of shade. Carpooling is recommended since a $5 parking pass is required. We can carpool from Brea at 6:30 a.m.

Not sure how to leave a comment, but THANK YOU everyone for allowing me to running with you guys last night. It was super hot and tough. I’m glad I survived!!! The watermelon was such a wonderful treat after, made the run worth it, the company as well!!! You guys are SUPER AWESOME!!! I can’t wait to run with you guys again soon. Next time I’ll be more prepared and bring my water pack. 😛
P.S. My hubby is a bit jealous he can’t run with us… Maybe on a weekend run I’ll try and drag him along. 😛

You figured out how to leave a comment, Lonnissa! 😉 We are happy that you were able to join us for a run. The watermelon was provided by the other running group (Snail’s Pace running club). They just happened to be running the same route as us and when they saw that we were running there, as well…they went to Stater Bros to get watermelon for everybody. That was very nice of them to share! You did a great job for somebody who only runs 3 miles…and the killer heat didn’t help. Yes..be sure to bring water with you on runs…especially on those hot days. Come back and run with us anytime. And…definitely bring your hubby out when he can make it. Thank you for your kind compliment about us being ‘super awesome’. I have to agree with that. You would be hard-pressed to find a greater group of people!!!
