Several of us (Bethany, Cindy, Donna, Ed, Elaine, Jason, Juan, Julie, Lori?, Nina, Pam, Rosemarie, Sandi) will be taking the night off from running and going to see a running movie instead.  We’ll also be having dinner at Pei Wei before the movie.  The restaurant is conveniently located right across the street from where the movie is showing.  Please come join us!  It’ll be fun and something different!

If you prefer to skip the movie and want to run instead…come join John at the Fullerton Loop.  It’s  a nice shady run and you’ll be burning more calories than those of us spending the evening sitting.

Run:  We’ll meet by the trail near the Fullerton Courthouse at 6:00 p.m. (close to the intersection of Brea Blvd. & Harbor Blvd….behind the Ralph’s) 1275 N. Berkeley Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832. We park in the lower parking lot.  If you run around Laguna Lake and back…that is 5 miles.

Dinner (Before the movie):  We’ll be at Pei Wei at 5:30 p.m. to around 6:35 p.m.  It is located adjacent to Men’s Wearhouse.  The address is:  985 E. Birch St. Brea   If you will be arriving after 5:30…you can text one of us and we’ll save you a seat.

Movie:  If you are skipping dinner and just coming to the movie, we’ll meet near the entrance at 6:45 p.m.  Text one of us if you can’t find us and we’ll try to save you a seat in the theater so we can all sit together.  This is the movie we’ll be watching:  “RUN FREE – The True Story of Caballo Blanco”

Where:  Curtis Theatre at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle, in Brea. (Just off of Birch St.)

Date:  Tuesday, September 1st

Time:  7:00 p.m.

Price:  $12 in advance  http://www.imathlete.com/events/EventOverview.aspx?fEID=23540  or $15 at the door the night of the show

The feature-length documentary is about ultra-running legend Micah True. Better known as Caballo Blanco – the White Horse – True, was the focal character of Christopher McDougall’s 2009 best-selling book “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen” about the Tarahumara Indians of northern Mexico. The one-night-only event is sponsored by A Snail’s Pace running store and club.

Saturday Run (Aug. 15)

We have a couple of run options on this very hot Saturday.  Su planned a 6.5 mile run/hike at Peter’s Canyon in Orange.  She thought that this would be a good place to practice hiking some of the steeper hills to prepare for the Sierra Club hike that she will be leading next Saturday (see info below).  There is also a nice flatter trail that people can run out-and-back on to avoid the hills.  The other option is to run at the Greenway Trail in Whittier with John and some others.  This is a very nice flat asphalt trail lined with CA native plants. It is an out-and-back run…so mileage can be easily adjusted.

Where ever you decide to run…don’t forget to HYDRATE!!!

Option 1 – Peter’s Canyon Trail Run in Orange:   We will meet at 6:30 a.m. near the Taco Bell located on the corner of Chapman Ave. and Jamboree.  The address is:  8548 E. Chapman Ave. Orange.  The Taco Bell is located near a Tuesday Morning store and a Well’s Fargo in an Albertson’s shopping center…on the east side of the parking lot near Jamboree.  We will run to Peter’s Canyon and back making this about a 6.5 mile run.

Option 2 – Greenway Trail Run in Whittier:  We will meet at Palm Park at 6:30 a.m.  The park is located on El Rancho Dr. between Rose Dr. and Floral Dr.  (You can use this address of a house across the street from the park to enter into your GPS:  5753 El Rancho Dr. Whittier)  Here is a map:

Welcome LONNISSA!!!  Lonnissa ran with us on Thursday.  She works in Claremont and lives in Irvine…so she stopped off in Brea for a run before heading home.  She wanted a pic of her new running friends to show her husband.

Su’s Sierra Club Hike:  Here’s a message from Su….

I’m leading a hike for the Sierra Club on Saturday August 22nd to Ice House Saddle and want to see if some Brea Runners want to do this.    This hike is easier than Baldy which usually takes me about 7-8 hours with breaks because that is a fairly difficult hike at altitude.  It is excellent training for Baldy if people want to do that later.  It is still at altitude but lower.   I expect this hike to be about 6 hours total and plan on going at a “leisurely” pace which is hard for me to define.   I find that altitude and the length of these hikes actually helps my running.  This hike is much more scenic than Baldy and is also fine if the weather is hot down here because it’s colder up at altitude plus this route tends to have a lot of shade.  Carpooling is recommended since a $5 parking pass is required.   We can carpool from Brea at 6:30 a.m.
