Beautiful Bride Julie A!!! Julie got married at Tivoli Terrace in Laguna Beach this past Saturday.  She said it was a wonderful day and she enjoyed everything.  Her 5 children were there and 2 of her grandchildren were in the wedding.  It was cloudy earlier in the day, but the sun came out just in time for when they were to take pictures.  I asked Julie to send us a pic and she sent me this one with her new husband, Dave and her mom:

Congratulations MIRANDA!!!  Miranda shared some exiting news.  She recently ran the Death Valley Marathon in memory of Will and placed 3rd in her age group division.  She said it was a very flat out and back road race.  It was a rather mentally challenging race since there are no spectators, no hills, no turns and no real changes in scenery…and it can be a little warm and windy.  But it’s a great place to visit and camp…a reasonably priced and laid back race.  Great job, Miranda!

A Message from SU:

Hello Friends and Fellow Runners!

I was lucky enough to be chosen to participate in a medical mission with http://www.projectvietnam.org/. a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to providing healthcare and aid to impoverished and rural areas of Vietnam.

I have always wanted to volunteer abroad on a medical mission and found the perfect opportunity through my workplace and DaVita Village Trust so I am very excited about this new experience.  I wish I could share this with you and take you in my luggage but alas, I cannot due to strict luggage size and weight restrictions as well as pesky human trafficking laws.

I’m trying to raise $1000 in funds before this trip begins on March 14th.  Donations are tax-deductible and any amount is appreciated.  Help me reach my goal by donating here:

https://sna.etapestry.com/fundraiser/DaVitaVillageTrust/VietnamMedicalMission/individual.do?participationRef=1008.0.51306521

…and support me in this mission to bring free healthcare to those who would otherwise have no access to it.

Thank you for your generosity.

Su Yi, MD

See below if you don’t remember what I look like:

Thursday Run (Feb. 12)

We’ll meet in the parking lot near Men’s Wearhouse (985 E. Birch) at 6:00 p.m.  It is located in the Target/24 Hour Fitness Shopping Center.  We’ll be doing Rosemarie’s Run.  If anybody would like a shorter run…you can make this an out-and-back run.  If you run up Santa Fe Drive to Naranjal…that is around the 2 mile mark.   You could turn around here, instead of going all the way to Valencia.

Rosemarie’s Run (5.4 miles)

Greetings from Rick:  Rick said to say ‘Hi’ to everybody.  He has recovered from his Plantar Faciitis and since he had gone so long without running regularly, he started running again using the Snail’s Pace method of 1:4 for 3 weeks, 2:3 for 3 weeks and so on.  It’s been a slow process, but he said it’s working.  Rick and Karen are busy planning their next trip with Rick’s college roommate and his wife.  They will be leaving on May 10th for 5 weeks to visit England, Scotland, Ireland and Germany.  His friends have never been out of the country…so it should be a great trip.

Here’s another great poster from Rosemarie (can’t we all relate?!):

Congrats ELAINE!!!  Elaine ran the Sean O’Brien 50K on Saturday and sent this photo from the finish line after receiving her well-deserved medal.  She said the second half was tough due to slipping and sliding.  Her IT Band flared up, which made the down hills difficult.  But…she said they made it through and had an awesome day!

Greetings from DENISE:  Everybody is always asking how Denise is and we’ve missed running with her…so I emailed her to find out.  Denise wrote back and said that it’s good to hear that the Brea Runners haven’t forgotten about her and Christina has been keeping her updated on what we have been doing.  Denise has lived in Chino for a year and a half now (not too far from Travis).  She hasn’t been running, but has taken up less impact sports like spinning, the elliptical and hiking.  She is still on the San Dimas Mountain Rescue team and finally completed all of the training, including her national EMT certification.  She LOVES it!  Their most recent search was for the missing Irvine woman in Big Bear, which unfortunately didn’t have a good ending.  Denise said to say hello to all her running friends and she misses everyone!!!  In case people forget what she looks like…she sent this photo taken from the Big Bear search, where they assisted the San Bernardino Sheriff.

Happy Running ELAINE!!!  Elaine will be running the Sean O’Brien 50K Trail Ultra in the Santa Monica Mountains on Saturday with her Team in Training group.  She will be running alongside some of the runners which she helped coach and will surely provide them with the encouragement and inspiration that they’ll need to get through this very long run.   We’re proud of you Elaine for taking on another amazing challenge and for dedicating so much of your time to coaching your TNT teammates!
