SoCal Ragnar Volunteers Needed:  Brea Runners, it is that time of year again. We are preparing for the annual SoCal Ragnar Relay in April. We desperately need some volunteers to work the course for us during the race. If you are interested, please email Scott Gotreau at sgotreau@sbcglobal.net. Additionally, we are looking for drivers who would like to join the team for the fun, but don’t want to run. Again, if you are interested, please contact Scott. As always, we are so grateful for all of the support provided by the Brea Runners. Thank you for helping our race to be a success.  ~ Scott

We’ll meet near the Snail’s Pace store at 6:00 p.m. We gather in front of the In Flower floral shop (1050 E. Imperial Hwy in Brea), which is located between Snail’s Pace and Tempo.  We’ll be doing the 5.3 mile version of John’s Run.  One way to shorten this run is by staying on Associated Rd., rather then veering off towards Placentia Ave.  This will make the run slightly more than 4.5 miles.  If you want an even shorter run…you can always do an out-and-back run and turn around at any point.  Please don’t take a shortcut through Craig Park!  It’s not a safe choice now that it’s dark out.

John’s Run – Modified Version (5.3 miles)

Happy Running CHRIS!!!  Chris will be running the Disney Star Wars Half Marathon on Sunday.  I bet there will be a lot of great costumes at this race!

Welcome DIANA!!!  Diana ran with us for the first time on Thursday evening.  Diana is my stalker who I have seen running in Chino Hills, Orange, Hacienda Heights and now Brea.  LOL

Will’s Memorial Run:  Some of you may already know that Pam and Miranda’s friend, Will passed away last October.  You may have met Will if you ran Ragnar SoCal 2013.  I never had the chance to meet him, but from what Pam has told me of him and from what I read in the following obituary…he touched the lives of many.   http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/latimes/obituary.aspx?pid=172802779

Some of his friends are getting together for a run in Griffith Park this Sunday (Jan. 18) at 9:00 a.m. in Will’s memory.  Pam wants everybody to know that they are welcome to attend.  Here are the details:

Meet at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Parking Lot.  If you are taking the 5 Fwy…exit Griffith Park (first exit after Los Feliz)  At the end of the off ramp (Crystal Springs), turn RIGHT.  Drive until you come to the first stop sign and turn LEFT.  At the end of the road, the parking lot is on the right.

They are going to brunch following the run and we are welcome to join them.

Welcome New BR Puppies…HAPPY and PENNY!!!  Daisy, JT, Copper, Tucker and Tanner…you have a couple of new cousins.  We were so sad to hear about the loss of Su’s dog, Coco late last year.   Su just adopted a new puppy named ‘Happy’. She said that although his name is Happy, he always looks worried with his furrowed brow.  Su said she will have to look into Botox injections for him.  LOL  Su already has Happy out hiking with her.  Cindy also has a new puppy to keep her other dog, Sammie (or Sammy) company.  After trying out a number of names…they are going with the name ‘Penny’.

LA Marathon Bib for Sale:   Judi has a friend who signed up for this race, but won’t be able to run it.  Her friend is selling her bib for $125 (current fee is $190).  If anybody is interested…please let me know and I will pass on your contact info to Judi.

Happy Running MARGARET!!!  Margaret is in Jackson, Mississippi this weekend to run the Mississippi Blues Marathon. I do believe that this is State #39.  I think we will all agree that it takes an enormous  amount of physical and emotional strength, determination and perseverance in order to run so many training and race miles year after year!  Way to stay focused on your goal, Margaret!!!

Happy Running MIRANDA!!!  Miranda will be running the 34th Annual Avalon Benefit 50 Mile Run on Saturday.  This race is known as one of the country’s most challenging and scenic 50 milers.  Please take a look at the elevation chart for this course.  I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to run 50 miles…let alone in this type of terrain with all of the elevation changes.  WOW Miranda…you are one tiny, but amazingly strong woman!!!
