Happy Birthday RICK N!!!  Rick’s birthday is on Saturday.  Enjoy your celebration, Rick!

Regine Sediva from Ralph’s:  I was shopping at the Ralph’s in Brea the other day.  I happened to notice that the cashier had a race medal around her neck.  She said that she wore it to show her co-workers, some of whom are also runners.  Regine placed 2nd in the women’s visually impaired division of the California International Marathon in Sacramento last weekend with a finish time of 4:07.  Regine also ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 and here is a story about her experience:

https://runsra.org/usaba-event-returns-to-cim/  (Adrian Broca was one of the men’s favorites in the visually impaired division in Sacramento.  Pam and I saw him running at last year’s LA Rock n’ Roll 1/2, where Will was his guide.)

When I first entered the line at Ralph’s to check out…I was the only customer.  After chatting with Regine for awhile…I turned around and saw 5 to 6 customers waiting behind me.  They were AMAZINGLY PATIENT and not a single one made a comment of gave me the stink eye for being so chatty and holding up the line.  So…if you ever see me out shopping…you might want to pick a different lane to check out. LOL

Brea Runners’ 2014 Holiday Charity:    Our running group first began it’s annual tradition of helping those in need during the holiday time back in 2011 when we adopted a family who was struggling financially.  The following year we adopted several senior citizens for the holiday and last year we collected socks and underwear to donate to homeless shelters.  This year, Pam suggested that we help the Thomas House Family Shelter.    Thomas House provides shelter for families with children and teaches them skills to become independent and self-sufficient.  Pam contacted Cyndee, who is the Executive Director for Thomas House and is also a California Cruiser.  Cyndee thanks us for selecting Thomas House as our holiday charity and said that they would appreciate gift cards, which will be given as gifts to their families living at the shelter.

We are asking for donations of gift cards in either $10 or $25 denominations from: Kohl’s, Walmart, Target and Stater Bros.  (If it is easier to donate cash…we will be happy to purchase the gift cards for you.)  Please give your gift cards to Pam or Julie by December 16th.

Of course…your participation in this project is completely voluntary!  But…it really does warm the heart to make the holidays a little bit merrier for those who are having a tough time right now.

Yosemite Half Marathon:  Rick signed up for this race, which is held on October 10, 2015.  He said that if any Brea Runners want to run it…he has room at his house to stay.  If you’re interested…you’d better register quickly.  Last year, it sold out in 9 days.

Sharon and I were talking about how much fun it would be to run trail races in National Parks.  She sent me this link (and I forwarded it to Rick).  Take a look at the website and you’ll see lots of other races held in Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell and more!

Santa Hustle 5K:  If anybody is looking for a fun holiday race…this one is held in Buena Park on December 14th.  Cindy 50, Missy and Rick N will be there!

Our Rain Runner PAT! Since it was pouring rain on Tuesday night…most of us elected to skip the run and stay home where it was warm and dry.  John stopped by Snail’s on the off chance that somebody might show up to run and would need directions.  Lo and behold…Pat showed up!  Yay for Pat for being such a dedicated runner and thanks to John for stopping by Snail’s on a rainy night when he wasn’t planning on running himself!

Tuesday Run (Dec. 2)

We’ll meet near the Snail’s Pace store at 6:00 p.m. We gather in front of the In Flower floral shop (1050 E. Imperial Hwy in Brea), which is located between Snail’s Pace and the new Tempo restaurant (formally Lascari’s).

The weather forecast says there is a good chance of rain on Tuesday evening.  If it is pouring rain…consider the run canceled.  If it is sprinkling…it is your decision whether or not you want to come out and run.  If you do…please BE CAREFUL and watch the cars!  Drivers will have a more difficult time seeing runners in the dark and rain.

Happy Birthday HELEN C!!!  Helen’s birthday is on Tuesday.  We haven’t seen you in awhile and hope that you will come out and run with us when you are visiting your boys in Brea.  Enjoy your special day, Helen!

Please Don’t Forget to rsvp for the Holiday Party!  The info is in the previous blog post.
