We’ve never had a New Year’s day run before.  My guess is that a lot of you will be sleeping in on Thursday morning after staying up late to ring in the new year.  For anybody who wants to start 2015 off with a morning run…come join us!  We aren’t meeting until 8 a.m….but that might still be too early for some.

We’ll meet by the trail near the Fullerton Courthouse at 8:00 a.m. (close to the intersection of Brea Blvd. & Harbor Blvd….behind the Ralph’s) 1275 N. Berkeley Ave. Fullerton, CA 92832. We park in the lower parking lot.  If you run around Laguna Lake and back…that is 5 miles.  There are other options if anybody wants a longer run.

Happy Birthday MASON!!!  Mason’s birthday is on Friday.  Enjoy your New Year’s and birthday celebration!

Tuesday Run (Dec. 30)

We’ll meet near the Snail’s Pace store at 6:00 p.m. We gather in front of the In Flower floral shop (1050 E. Imperial Hwy in Brea), which is located between Snail’s Pace and Nothing Bundt Cake.  Tanner has had his own run for quite some time and now Lisa finally has a run named after her.  The route isn’t that exciting, but I think this will make for a great training run…with lots of rolling hills.  There are 2 versions:

Greetings from CHERIE and ROB:  I heard from Cherie.  She said that she has been keeping busy with her new job.  She and Rob hope to get back to running with the group soon.  She wanted me to tell everybody “Hi and Merry Christmas” from the two of them.

Thomas House Shelter:  We collected $485 worth of gift cards to be donated to the families at Thomas House this holiday season.  Thank you very much to all who contributed and for opening your hearts and being so generous!  Thank you also to PAM for volunteering to organize this year’s BR holiday charity project!  Thomas House provides a list of items that they would greatly appreciate receiving throughout the year that will be useful to the families.  I will periodically post the list and if you have any items that you would like to donate…just bring it to a run.  We will happily deliver the collected items to Thomas House.

Happy Birthday RICK N!!!  Rick’s birthday is on Saturday.  Enjoy your celebration, Rick!

Regine Sediva from Ralph’s:  I was shopping at the Ralph’s in Brea the other day.  I happened to notice that the cashier had a race medal around her neck.  She said that she wore it to show her co-workers, some of whom are also runners.  Regine placed 2nd in the women’s visually impaired division of the California International Marathon in Sacramento last weekend with a finish time of 4:07.  Regine also ran the Boston Marathon in 2013 and here is a story about her experience:

http://abc7.com/archive/9090416/

https://runsra.org/usaba-event-returns-to-cim/  (Adrian Broca was one of the men’s favorites in the visually impaired division in Sacramento.  Pam and I saw him running at last year’s LA Rock n’ Roll 1/2, where Will was his guide.)

When I first entered the line at Ralph’s to check out…I was the only customer.  After chatting with Regine for awhile…I turned around and saw 5 to 6 customers waiting behind me.  They were AMAZINGLY PATIENT and not a single one made a comment of gave me the stink eye for being so chatty and holding up the line.  So…if you ever see me out shopping…you might want to pick a different lane to check out. LOL

We will be skipping our run and having our annual holiday dinner this Tuesday evening.  Details are below…as well as information about our group’s holiday charity.

Please Join Us for our HOLIDAY PARTY!!!

PLACE:  Yard House (160 S. Brea Blvd. in Brea)

DATE:  Tuesday, December 9th

TIME:  6:00 p.m.

R.S.V.P.:  Please e-mail Julie at info@brearunners.com

Brea Runners’ 2014 Holiday Charity:    Our running group first began it’s annual tradition of helping those in need during the holiday time back in 2011 when we adopted a family who was struggling financially.  The following year we adopted several senior citizens for the holiday and last year we collected socks and underwear to donate to homeless shelters.  This year, Pam suggested that we help the Thomas House Family Shelter.    Thomas House provides shelter for families with children and teaches them skills to become independent and self-sufficient.  Pam contacted Cyndee, who is the Executive Director for Thomas House and is also a California Cruiser.  Cyndee thanks us for selecting Thomas House as our holiday charity and said that they would appreciate gift cards, which will be given as gifts to their families living at the shelter.

We are asking for donations of gift cards in either $10 or $25 denominations from: Kohl’s, Walmart, Target and Stater Bros.  (If it is easier to donate cash…we will be happy to purchase the gift cards for you.)  Please give your gift cards to Pam or Julie by December 16th.

Of course…your participation in this project is completely voluntary!  But…it really does warm the heart to make the holidays a little bit merrier for those who are having a tough time right now.
