Saturday Run (March 1)

We’ll meet at Tri-City Park at 7:00 a.m.  We park in the east parking lot near the intersection of Kraemer and Golden Ave. in Placentia.  If you run to the YL Community Center and back…it’s a little over 6 miles.  If you run to the Nixon Library and back…it’s about 8 miles.  If you run past the Equestrian center to the end of the Grandview cul-de-sac and back…that’s about 11 miles.

I won’t be running on Saturday.  I will be volunteering at the Run 4 Homeless Children 5K/10K at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley, along with John and Pam B.  John Strand is the race director for this race.  Ed and Nina said they plan to run at Tri-city.

If there is heavy rain on Saturday morning…you may consider the run cancelled.  If it is raining lightly…you make the call as to whether or not you want to come out and run.

Missy’s Run (6.25 miles)

Lori’s Run (5 miles)  For a longer run…continue with this route from the community center

I love rain

Thursday Run (Feb. 27)

We are going to meet near the NW corner of Brea Blvd. and Birch St at 6:00 pm. You can park in the parking structure located on Brea Blvd. behind the movie theaters.  John suggested this new run.  We will be running down Birch Street and back.  You can turn around at any point…but, I have some mileage suggestions below.  There is the possibility that it might be raining on Thursday evening.  If it is pouring…the run is cancelled.  If is raining lightly…it is up to you whether you want to come out and run or not.  Ed suggested that if it starts raining heavily…we can always head over to the YardHouse and skip the run. Hmmm…some of you might be hoping for heavy rain.  LOL

Birch Street Run (4, 5 or 6 miles)

Run EAST on Birch Street

If you run to Kraemer and back…that will be about 4 miles

If you run to Flower Hill Street and back…that will be about 5 miles

If you run to Valencia and back…that will be about 6 miles

Wine Sale:  Margaret is selling off some of the bottles of wine from her collection.  She asked me to post the following:

Here are some of the red wine I have in my collection. They’ve been in the wine storage and in complete temperate control. Have sold a few already. Some of these are very rare and special…Perhaps certain individuals or runners may like to purchase for special occasions. If anyone is interested in any of these, they can email or contact me for prices and I will be happy to provide. I think I even have more but have to take inventory…  margaretwchau@gmail.com

Race on the Base Reverse Sprint Triathlon:  We had fun in Los Alamitos this past Saturday.  We were all in the 2nd wave and our race didn’t begin until 10:25 am…so it was a little warm out there when we began the 5K portion of the tri.  Fortunately, it wasn’t too windy during the cycling portion this year.  CONGRATULATIONS to MONICA and KRISTYN on completing their very first triathlon!!!  Kristyn placed 3rd in her age division. CONGRATULATIONS  to KATIE  for a new 5K PR of 35:09 and to NINA for a new 5K PR of 31:05!!!  Also…both NINA and MICHELLE had much faster ROTB finish times this year!  Here are some pics from the race:

Welcome JUAN!!!  Sandi’s husband, Juan came out and ran with us on Tuesday evening.  He has run with us a couple of times before, but I don’t think he ever got an official welcome in the blog.

Welcome Back JUDI!!!  Judi surprised us all with a visit and came out and ran with us on Tuesday.  It was great to see you again!  Since Daisy isn’t up to running 5 miles yet…Judi sent me some current pics of her.  Apparently, Daisy loves car rides.  Hopefully, Daisy will make it out the next time we do her run.

Happy Running KATIE and ROBERTO!!!  Katie will be running the 5K at the Race on the Base on Saturday.  Roberto will be running the Brea 8K.  Is anybody else running the Brea 8K?

Happy Running, Cycling and Swimming JAKE, JULIE, KRISTYN, MICHELLE, MONICA, NINA and RONDA!!!  This group will be doing the Race on the Base Reverse Sprint Triathlon in Los Alamitos on Saturday.  Jake is doing the Jr. Reverse Tri.

It’s BR Ladies Weekend in Idyllwild:  Bethany came up with this great idea for a girl’s getaway weekend.  Thanks BETHANY!  Also…thanks to my very favorite ghostwriter, MICHELLE for the following write-up.  Once again, she bailed me out when I had a severe case of writer’s block.
Looking for the perfect girls’ weekend? Then come join the ladies of the Brea Runners for two nights in beautiful Idyllwild where we will run, hike, eat and relax!  We will be renting a cabin and heading out June 6-8.  The cost of the trip will be approximately $100 and covers lodging only.  As we get closer to the weekend we can figure out what makes the most sense in terms of sharing breakfasts and lunches but for now, food expenses are on your own.
We need to gather interest and deposits ASAP so we know what size cabin to rent.  If you want to come, please give Julie your $50 non-refundable deposit by March 6th.  Because we have to pay for the cabin in advance, we can’t refund your money if your plans change, but, we can try to help you find a person to take your spot.  With your deposit, please let Julie know if you are comfortable sharing a bed as several of the rooms come with king or queen sized beds.  If you absolutely must have your own bed, there is a possibility that there may be some individual beds but it really depends on the cabin we end up with.  If you are comfortable throwing an air mattress on the floor, let Julie know that too!
We will plan two organized runs and are open to suggestions for other group activities.  Yes, drinking wine definitely counts as an activity!
We are limited to the number of ladies we can accommodate so sign up ASAP.  The first 8 ladies to sign up are guaranteed a spot and after that we will start a waiting list and/or see if we can find a bigger cabin to hold more of us.
We hope you can join us, this will be a weekend you won’t forget.  And guys, we’re sorry . . .  even if you wear a running skirt, you still can’t come!
Su’s Death Valley Trip:  Su is taking a photography class and took a trip to Death Valley a couple of weeks ago to take some photos.  She said that the weather is pleasant during February and not 120 degrees as in the summer.  Su and her friend were in Badwater…the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere.  Su said that they are no longer doing the race there from now on.  I think you’ll all agree…Su takes GREAT pics!  Hmmm…I think we have a new BR photographer.

Tuesday Run (Feb. 18)

We’ll meet near the Snail’s Pace store at 6:00 p.m. We gather in front of the In Flower floral shop (1050 E. Imperial Hwy in Brea), which is located between Snail’s Pace and Lascari’s.  We’ll be doing the 5.3 mile version of John’s Run.  One way to shorten this run is by staying on Associated Rd., rather then veering off towards Placentia Ave.  This will make the run slightly more than 4.5 miles.  If you want an even shorter run…you can always do an out-and-back run and turn around at any point.  Please don’t take a shortcut through Craig Park!

John’s Run – Modified Version (5.3 miles)

Ragnar Relay Volunteers Needed:  This year’s Ragnar Relay takes place on April 4th and 5th.  Here is a message from Scott:
