Saturday Run (Aug. 3)

We’ll meet near the intersection of Prospect Ave. and Wabash Ave. in Yorba Linda at 7:00 a.m.  We will be joining the CA Cruisers for a trail run through Carbon Canyon and then over to Chino Hills State Park.  It is an out and back run…so you can turn around at any point, depending upon how far you want to run.

Please bring plenty of water with you!  There are restrooms at Carbon Canyon Regional Park and at the Chino State Park Discovery Center…but no water along the Chino Hills trail.

Directions to Meeting Location:  From Kraemer and Imperial Hwy…head EAST on Imperial.  You will pass Valencia and Rose.  The next street will be Prospect (LA Fitness and Heritage Oaks School on corners).  Left on Prospect heading NORTH.  Right on Wabash and park along Wabash.

Run Information provided by the Strands:  From Prospect and Wabash, we run thru the redwoods to Carbon Canyon State Park (2.2 miles), mostly flat and scenic.   Then on to Chino Hills State Park.    Where  North Ridge Trail and Telegraph Trail separate to Gilman peak is 3.5 miles. From Carbon Canyon State Park it is 4 miles.  Thus it is called the Four Mile Hill.  Where the trails separate, the altitude is 402 meters (1,319 feet), the height of the trail near Gilman Peak is 491 meters (1,611 feet), and Gilman Peak itself has an altitude of 514 meters (1,686 feet). We know you wanted to know that.
So, running from Wabash Street to Gilman Peak is 11.4 miles round trip.  From Wabash Street via North Ridge, going to 4 Corners and back via Telegraph Trail to Wabash Street is 16.5 miles. So, wear your Garmin,  decide how many miles you need and plan on turning around when you are half way there.  You can take the HILL (North Ridge Trail) or the flatter one (Telegraph Trail). For a short run of 4.4 miles, you can run through the redwoods to Carbon Canyon Park and back.
Happy Running CINDY 50!!!  As many of you know, Cindy is in Ireland on vacation and will be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon, held on August 5th.  We can’t wait to hear all about your trip!

Christina Update:  After wearing her ‘boot’ for 3 months while her bone fracture in her foot was healing…Christina reports that she is finally boot-free!  She begins physical therapy this week and hopes to be back out running in the near future.
Conquer the Bridge 5.3 Mile Labor Day Run (Monday, Sept. 2):  The CA Cruisers are trying to put together a team of 25 runners in order to get a group discount for this race.  The registration fee is $30 (instead of $45) if you register as part of their team.  If you are interested in running this, I will have registration forms available at our runs.  Do not mail the form.   I will collect the forms and deliver them to the Strands.   Please return your registration form, along with a check to Julie on or before Thursday, August 15th.
